Michigan Corrections Officer Grant Program

The Michigan Corrections Officer Grant Program (MCOGP) provides tuition and fees for corrections officers enrolled at a Michigan community college. This fund supports the Michigan Department of Corrections (MDOC) requirement that officers earn 15 college credits within 24 months of employment.

Corrections officers who meet the following criteria are eligible to submit an application:

  1. Be employed by the Michigan Department of Corrections.
  2. Have not earned 15 college credits.
  3. Earned approval by the Michigan Department of Corrections.  
  4. Enrolled at a community college in Michigan.

15-credit vocational corrections certificate courses (offered online fall and winter semesters)

  • CJ 130 – Introduction to Corrections
  • CJ 132 – Client Relations in Corrections
  • CJ 135 – Correctional Institutions & Facilities
  • CJ 233 – Criminology/Client Growth & Development 
  • CJ 238 – Legal Issues in Corrections

Submit your grant application to the Michigan Community College Association (MCCA). The application requires basic contact information, employee identification, social security number and a completed eligibility verification form (doc).

If you’re not already a Delta student, you will need to be admitted to the college and complete the admissions steps in order to register for classes and use your grant.

Get started at Delta

After enrolling in classes, submit your billing statement from the college to the MCCA.

After completing classes, submit your unofficial transcript to the MCCA.

Out-of-state community colleges, public universities and independent colleges are not eligible institutions for this program.
