Automotive Service Educational Program (GM ASEP)

General Motors has partnered with Delta to offer the GM Automotive Service Educational Program (GM-ASEP)— the longest-standing partnership between GM and a college.

The GM-ASEP is accredited through the Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation, which ensures you’ll receive invaluable hands-on classroom experience. Through established internship sponsorships at GM dealerships or ACDelco Professional Service Centers, you’ll get to immediately apply newly acquired skills in the field.

Graduates of the program leave Delta prepared for a successful career in the automotive industry having completed all the GM-required technician training and earning an associate’s degree in automotive service technology.

You’ll have the advantage of learning in one of the best college labs in the state. GM has donated $2.3 million to Delta since 1987, including 129 vehicles, ensuring you’ll work with the lasted technology in a safe and state-of-the-art facility.

• The General Motors Automotive Service Educational Program (GM-ASEP) includes classroom and laboratory sessions on up-to-date General Motors products as well as work experience at a General Motors dealership or an ACDelco Professional Service Center.
  • Each specialized subject is taught in the classroom and automotive laboratory and followed by related work experience. 
• The ASEP student must have a sponsorship from a GM Dealership or ACDelco Professional Service Center.
  • The main responsibility of the sponsor is to provide employment for the ASEP student during all of the required ASEP work experience courses.
  • All tuition, fees, housing (if needed) and textbook costs are the responsibility of the student.
• Students use Delta’s tools for lab class training but are required to have tools for work experience. ASEP students may select any brand of tools. It may be possible to obtain an educational discount for most well-known brands.
• The completion of the general education courses in the program add a balance of qualities vital to working in today’s service industry.

Professional licensure

Students are eligible to receive the ASE national credential which is not recognized by all states for licensure. The Automotive Service license can be earned in Michigan. Each state has their own requirements. There is no guarantee of licensing in another state. You may apply and that state’s licensing board will look at your credentials/education and decide requirements for gaining the license. Please contact the program coordinator for more information.
